Michigan Attorney Fees and Divorce

Michigan Attorney fees, how much will my family law matter cost? Please call 734.927.9782 to discuss your matter.

Michigan Attorney fees, how much will my family law matter cost?  This is not an easy question to answer as your Michigan attorney fees will depend upon how much time must be spent on your case. At the outset of your family law matter, it is impossible to estimate how much time we will spend at the conclusion of your case.  Our Michigan attorney fees are based upon the ethical code lawyers in Michigan are bound to observe.

How much you will pay for your divorce and family law matters will depend on several factors, including but not limited to the following:

  1.  the amount and nature of the services rendered,
  2.  the time, labor and difficulty involved,
  3.  the character and importance of the litigation,
  4.  the amount of assets and value of the estate affected,
  5.  and the requisite professional skill and expertise exercised by your attorney as well as novelty and difficulty of the questions involved and the results obtained.

When you call our office an hourly rate and retainer will be quoted to you; currently as of January 1, 2015, it is $250 per hour for Robert Stelmock, $200 per hour for associate attorneys, $2,500 retainer for divorce matters and $1,500 minimum retainer for other matters (forms of acceptable payment are Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX, Personal Check, Money Order or Cash)

In addition to Michigan Attorney fees, you will also be responsible for filing fees, service fees for process servers, appraisals, expert witness fees etc. You will be charged for conferences, e-mails and correspondence, telephone calls, office and research work, court time, filing and hearings. Sometimes a judge will order your spouse to contribute toward your Michigan attorney fees. If this occurs, you will be given credit on the amount your spouse pays.

Please note: We cannot tell you what the total fee for your divorce case will be because we have no way of knowing how much time must be spent on your case.
